How does Create revision work?

Create revision is where you build assessments and flashcard sets from ReviseOnline's question bank. Assessments are available to both students and teachers - the one difference being that teachers can assign what they build directly to a class. Flashcard sets are a student-only tool for personal revision; teachers don't create, assign or otherwise engage with flashcards.

Two ways to create

From the Create revision landing page, students can choose to build either a new assessment - a set of exam-style questions you select yourself, which can be timed and scored - or a new flashcard set, drawn from the same question bank and designed for quick, repeatable self-testing. Teachers can only build assessments; flashcard sets aren't available to teacher accounts. Each option walks you through a short "how it works" guide on screen before you begin.

Building an assessment: searching and filtering the question bank

The assessment builder lets you search and filter the full question bank to choose exactly which questions to include, by Course, Search, Unit, Topic, Syllabus point, Section reference, Mark allocation, and Scoring method (auto-scored or manually marked). As you tick questions to include, they're added to a selected-items panel showing a running Total questions, Total marks, and Estimated duration - an automatically calculated guide to how long the assessment should take a student to complete. You can set your own custom time limit instead if you'd prefer.

Naming, describing and scheduling your assessment

Once you're happy with your selection, give the assessment a name and description, confirm the course it belongs to, and choose when it should be scheduled for. This is also where teachers choose which class the assessment should be assigned to.

The difference for teachers: assigning to a class

Students build assessments for their own revision. Teachers have the same assessment builder available, with one addition - once an assessment is built, a teacher can assign it directly to one of their classes, so every student in that class receives it to complete. Flashcard sets are a student-only feature and aren't part of the teacher experience.

Building a flashcard set (students only)

Flashcard sets are built the same way as assessments - search and filter the question bank to select the content you want, then save your set. Flashcards are designed for quick, repeatable practice rather than timed, scored delivery, so there's no estimated duration, scoring method, or class assignment step involved. This is a student-only tool; teachers don't have access to flashcard creation.
