How does Markbook work?

Markbook is where teachers track student achievement across assessments and topics for a class. It's only available to teacher accounts.

Filtering your markbook

Use the Class, Topic and Period filters at the top of Markbook to focus on the class, topic and time frame you want to review. Period options include Course to date, This term, Last term, Last 30 days, or a custom range.

Class-level overview

At the top of Markbook, a set of stat tiles gives you a quick read on your class:

• Class average - the average score across your class for the current filters.
• Completion rate - the average completion rate across assessments in the current filters.
• At risk - flags students who may need extra support; tap to review who's included.
• Low engagement - flags students with low engagement; tap to review who's included.
• Needs marking - the number of attempts still waiting on manual marking.

Reading the table: Overall, assessments and topics

Below the stat tiles, the main table lists each student in your class, with columns moving from Overall, to individual assessments, to topic averages. A topic average pulls together every question a student has completed that contributes to that topic, across any assessment - not just one assessment in isolation.

A cell can show:

• A percentage score
• A dash (-), if the student hasn't started
• "In progress", if the student has started but not submitted
• "Needs mark", if the attempt includes a question still waiting on manual marking

Comparing against class, school and platform averages

Class average, school average and platform average rows sit at the bottom of every table, so you can see how your class compares at a glance, whether you're looking at overall performance, an individual assessment, or a topic.

Drilling into an assessment

Select an assessment column to open its detailed breakdown, showing every question, its type (such as multiple-choice or short-answer) and mark value, and each student's result question by question. Class, school and platform averages are shown here too, broken down by question.

Seeing help requests on a question

If a student uses Ask your teacher while completing a question, it shows up directly in the assessment breakdown - an icon on that question shows how many students asked for help, and what kind of help they needed. You can also see all open help requests for a class from the Help requests button in Markbook.
